New Delhi : Department for International Development (DFID), a UK government department, and the Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skills Council (AASSC) are holding a roundtable in Bengaluru on 29 November 2017. The roundtable aims to help identify possible areas for collaboration in skills training in Aerospace and Aviation sector using international knowledge and expertise.
DFID India’s Skills for jobs project, is providing technical assistance to scale up and improve the quality of vocational training and skill development in India. The project works with central and state institutions as well as with the industry led sector skills councils. Civil Aviation is a key sector affecting the fortunes of the global economy and it is growing at a tremendous pace. Sale of large commercial aircraft, is expected to be robust over the next 10-15 years. Similarly, design and manufacturing requirements of aircraft, for both civil and military purposes is expected to grow rapidly during this period. However, skilled workforce to service the aviation and aerospace is becoming a challenge.
Therefore Aerospace and Aviation is one of the sectors where DFID proposes to collaborate with AASSC to share UK’s successful models on technology led training, apprenticeships and certification. As a first step under this initiative, DFID, in collaboration with AASSC, is organising a round table at Bengaluru on 29 Nov 2017. The round table will be an attempt to garner views from important stakeholdersincluding government and industry in addressing the skill challenges. The roundtable will gauge the preparedness of industry, while also assessing the opportunities, challenges, and solutions. U.K’s Deputy High Commissioner in Bengaluru, senior representatives from DFID, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE),the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skills Council are expected to participate along with representatives of Industry and Service Providers in the Aerospace and Aviation Sector.
