New Delhi : The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), (formerly DFID), Govt. of UK organized a virtual workshop for the promotion of Apprenticeship in Renewable Energy Sector in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ). The webinar was planned to disseminate benefits in apprenticeship training and provide overview of initiatives and processes adopted by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), NSDC and SCGJ.
The event saw participation from over 50 participants which included senior officials from FCDO, MSDE, NSDC, SCGJ, Third Party Aggregators (TPAs) and industries from Renewable energy sector. Ms. Anu Gupta, Head Skills, and Mr Sanjay Valsangkar, Senior Programme Manager, FCDO briefly touched upon the work done by FCDO in green jobs and Renewable Energy sector and on Apprenticeship under Skills for Jobs in collaboration with MSDE, NSDC, SCGJ, and Industry.
Mr. Jan Ebben, Senior Head, Apprenticeship Division, NSDC highlighted key international best practices in apprenticeship with its benefits. He also talked about sustainable economy and role of apprentices in driving the same as this can help in fulfilling the skills required for green skills and make India ready to adapt faster. Ms. Anita Srivastava, Joint Director, MSDE in her keynote address mentioned the role of MSDE in evangelizing the apprenticeship ecosystem and benefits which it can provide to make the youth employable for a better future. She also highlighted that the Government is ensuring and taking steps to educate the employers about hiring apprentices.
Dr. Praveen Saxena, CEO, SCGJ highlighted that industry is aware about apprenticeship but it is reluctant to hire apprentices. However, he also mentioned that many industries have now been approaching SCGJ for apprenticeship. He further emphasized that it is the right time to introduce a component of greening in apprenticeship. NSDC team, led by Pangkhuri, gave a detailed presentation on NAPS.
Mr. Prashant Pachisia, CEO, 2Coms Consulting Private Limited, an empanelled Third-Party Aggregator under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, highlighted benefits of apprenticeship and cost benefit to the employers in hiring an apprentice in comparison to a permanent employee. He also highlighted how his company helps employers in various obligations under the scheme like portal registration, documentation, Basic Training, Assessments and certifications to name a few.
This was followed by a vibrant discussion on how apprenticeship in renewable energy sector in India can be taken ahead to make the youth job ready. The session ended with a vote of thanks.
