New Delhi : Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), erstwhile DFID, in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and NPTC Group of Colleges has launched a 6-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme in advanced EV technologies. The ToT programme is being conducted as a part of FCDO’s Skills for Job’s Technical Assistance programme and is being delivered in partnership with UK’s NPTC Group of Colleges.
This is a first of its kind ToT programme in India on Electric Vehicles which is being delivered in a virtual mode through Moodle and has trainers from UK delivering both the domain and platform skills trainings to the participants. All the 28 trainees registered under the ToT programme are from the TISS ecosystem and carry vast experience in the automobile sector.
The event saw participation from over 60 participants which included high profile dignitaries from Government of UK, NITI Aayog, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and TISS. The event also had trainers from UK’s NPTC Group of College and trainees from TISS who are undergoing the ToT programme.
Mr. Gavin McGillivray, Minister Counsellor Development, FCDO lauded the initiative undertaken in the sector under the India-UK partnership and highlighted it as a key priority area for economies of both the nations. He also stressed upon the importance of developing e-mobility solutions towards dealing with dynamically changing climate priorities. Ms. Anu Gupta, Head Skills FCDO – emphasized on bringing in UK expertise to fill in the needed gaps in Indian skills ecosystem where efforts by private academic institutes are still at a nascent stage in furthering skilling in EV sector.
Prof. Neela Dabir, Dean School of Vocational Education, TISS reiterated the need for wider use of EVs to enable reduction in carbon emissions which is a priority on a global scale. She appreciated the ongoing ToT in EVs as an exemplary effort since this is a pioneer initiative to widely propagate skilling in this area. Mr. James Llewellyn, Head International Operations, and Mr. Steve Rhodes, NPTC Group of College mentioned that NPTC is also in discussion with TISS to build on this training and further improve the learning and delivery skills of the trainers.
The event also saw NPTC trainers giving a virtual tour of the training lab showcasing the tools, machines and equipment used for training in EV. A major highlight was the demonstration of EV Rig. Some of the trainees also shared their experience of the ToT training so far. The event ended with a vote of thanks from FCDO.
