Indore : According to the provisions of Apprentices Act, as amended in 2014, Rs 10,000 crore will be spent under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) in next four years for training of apprentices to enhance skill of workforce. Through this amount financial incentives will be given to employers for engagement of apprentices, informed experts at a workshop on apprenticeship held as part of Government of India’s dissemination efforts, here at Sayaji Hotel on Thursday.
The workshop on NAPS was organized by Department for International Development (DFID), Government of UK in association with Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Association of Industries of Madhya Pradesh (AIMP) for promotion and adoption of apprenticeship training.
Minister, counsellor development and head DFID India, Gavin McGillivray was chief guest of the workshop, who spoke about the importance of skilling and apprenticeship training for a country. The workshop was part of a series of workshops to be conducted across industry clusters surrounding major cities targeting the private sector to promote NAPS and help them fill the skill gap in their workforce.
Director, regional directorate of apprenticeship training, Kanpur, Anil Kumar deliberated on apprenticeship training scenario in MP and the NAPS launched by the government to support the industry. The workshop covered knowledge sessions on engaging apprentices, its benefits, case studies from the industries engaging apprentices and an on-the-spot establishment registration kiosk. The workshop was attended by a host of CEOs, founders, HR heads and senior managers from more than 70 leading organizations across automobile, food, health, infrastructure, pharma and IT sectors. Representatives from companies like Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicles, Cummins Turbo, Mahindra two-Wheelers, Sun Pharma, Gujarat Ambuja Exports and others attended the workshop.
DFID is supporting the roll out of NAPS as a part of its technical collaboration with the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship (MSDE).
The Madhya Pradesh State Skill Development Mission and Association of Industries Madhya Pradesh supported the initiative at the regional level. Om Dhoot president of AIMP attended the programme and read out apprenticeships pledge by industries.
