Dhaka (Bangladesh) : The EU Head of Delegation in Dhaka Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon has said that their “development assistance to Bangladesh puts people first”.
“This is clearly reflected by the contracts signed in December last year,” he said, adding that this new contracts would provide the partnership with Bangladesh “a fresh impetus”.
Under the ‘Skills 21’ programme which was built on the success of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) project ended in December last year, the EU tied up with the UN labour agency, ILO, again to continue to modernize the system in Bangladesh.
The primary purpose of the new four-year project is to help the government develop its roadmap toward an “effective and efficient” vocational training model which as such does not exist in Bangladesh. The total budget for the initiative is 20 million Euros.
It is part of the overall ‘EU development cooperation multiannual indicative programme for 2014-2020 under which the 28-countries bloc would provide 700 million Euros as grants’ to Bangladesh in three sectors – education and skill development, nutrition and food security and strengthening democratic governance.
