Japanese Ambassador inaugurated Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) at Sri City

Sri City (Chittoor) : Japanese Ambassador in India Kenji Hiramatsu on Friday formally inaugurated the Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM), a residential skill training centre, in Sri City.

Accompanied by Consul General of Japan in Chennai Kojiro Uchiyama and Sri City MD Ravindra Sannareddy, Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu unveiled a plaque on the occasion.

Calling Japan an active partner in India’s growth, he said, “Very happy to be at Sri City, which is the second largest township for Japanese companies in India. I am also happy to take part in the inaugural ceremony of JIM. This is the very first JIM in Andhra Pradesh and first JIM by multiple Japanese companies. I am confident that students will make use of the training provided and transform themselves as skilled technicians in manufacturing.”

Mr. Sannareddy hailed the skill development at JIM for being focused on employability.

“Besides core technical skills, students will be groomed in Japanese manufacturing practices and processes. Successful completion of the course will make them industry-ready,” he added.

‘Model institution’

He said JIM-Sri City would serve as a model for technical training and skill development. Yoshio Nishida, director, Kobelco Group, the lead company in managing JIM, spoke about JIM’s unique features. Hisashi Kanda of the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) said the Sri City-JIM, a fully residential institute set up in partnership with Sri City and some Japanese units, would train the youth and contribute to the mission of ‘Skill India’ and ‘Make in India’.
