Trichy : National Institute of Technology, Trichy obtained “UK India Education and Research Initiative – Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (UKIERI-MSDE) Sponsored (UK – India) Project – Training Of Trainers Towards Capacity Building In Skills And Education (TOT-CBSE): A Sustainable Approach and New Directions”, for the year 2016-17. This sponsored project worth Rs1.10 crore has been approved by UKIERI governance board which has representation of senior officials from UK and Indian governments.
Being a joint project of UK and India, the project will focus on the themes – development of highly skilled teachers and trainers on pedagogical methods, capacity building of the trainers and engagement with industry and employers.
Stating that the geographical areas where the project is to be implemented would be Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Pondicherry, West Bengal, Orissa, Assam and Kerala, the release from NIT said that the broad objectives of the project are to facilitate the establishment of a sustainable model for trainers training in skills and vocational education in the region taking into account the national and global agenda, and to carry out a systematic review, assessment and analysis of the gaps existing between the demand and supply of skills in the areas of engineering and non-engineering fields across the cited geographical areas.
The Indian side of the project will have associate professor of department Of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) of NIT-T Dr R Murugesan with his UK counterpart vice-principal John Phelps of Coleg Y Cymoedd, Wales in UK.
It was for the first time that department of HSS got a high valued and international project. The industry partner organisation from India would be Smile Skills India (P) Ltd. The industry and academic partner organisations of UK would be SEMTA and City and Islington College, UK.
