The Government of Karnataka has created a separate department for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and livelihood on a mission mode led by the Honorable Chief Minister. One of the key objectives of the department is provide skilling for a vast majority of working age population in the informal sector across the state. Domestic workers form the bottom of the workers’ pyramid. Thus, the SDEL department intends to empower at least 10,000 domestic workers this year through employment linked skilling.
In this regard, one day Consultative Workshop on Domestic Workers Skill Development is being organized in association with UNDP on 21st June 2017 at Bengaluru to elicit suggestions from experts and stakeholders for strategizing a road map for skilling and upskilling for providing upward mobility and dignified working conditions.
The learning from the workshop will prove to be a very helpful guide in planning for a cooperative structure in professionalizing this sector. This would pave way for quality service laced with dignity and social justice.
