Speaking on the occasion, professor Reddy said that in the absence of institutes offering post-sea oriented courses in Andhra Pradesh, the aspirants are forced to go to other metro cities. “The proposed Skill Development Centre will do away with this major challenge for the job aspirants,” said professor Reddy. Professor Reddy added that the swimming pool on the campus, which was closed several years ago, will be excavated for the training purposes. “Andhra University and the people of Vizag city will reap benefits from the institute. There is a huge scope for employment for the post-sea trainees in foreign countries,” said Prof Reddy.

Akash Hoon, an alumnus of the varsity, said that he is happy to collaborate with his alma mater for the Maritime Institute. “Even the class X passouts can secure good jobs by getting training in the post-sea courses at the institute. This may lead to foreign shipping companies setting their offices in Visakhapatnam,” said Hoon.

Dean (Academics) Prof K Venkata Rao, Chairman of Hoon Institute Kiran Hoon and others were present.
