Guwahati : A day-long workshop on skill development with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Sector Skill Councils (SSC) and Training Partners was held at Sri Sri Madhavdeva International Auditorium, Panjabari, Guwahati on Friday.
Three MoUs were signed by Mission Director of Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM), AP Tiwari with the representatives of Plumbing, Logistic and Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Councils in Friday’s workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Assam’s Minister for Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Chandra Mohan Patowary said, ‘Skill is inbuilt in every human being. But we need to explore, utilize and hone it for betterment of the person and society at large. Human resource of our country is very rich and we need to make India the skill capital of the world as per the vision of our Prime Minister.’
Minister Patowary declared that there will be a Skill Development Centre in every block, municipality and town committee with a target to skill 1.50 lakh youths of the state. He added that companies like Samsung, Havells, Usha, Skipper, Lakme have been asked to open skill centres in the state to train up the youths and make them industry-ready.
Referring to the skilled workers of China, Patowary added, ‘We must skill our human resources so that the country becomes a production destination for the industries of the world. This will be in accordance with our Make in India initiative.’
The Minister requested NSDC to open an office in Guwahati so that the department, organizations and training partners can work in a coordinated-manner to achieve skilled manpower in the state.
Additional Chief Secretary, KV Eapen said, ‘The Department will collaborate with ITE Education Services, Singapore to set up a Skill Centre in Assam and raise the standards of skill training to a global level.’
Commissioner and Secretary of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department, Ashutosh Agnihotri while delivering the welcome address said, ‘India has the demographic dividend with 65% of the population below the age of 35. This vast pool of young talent and energy needs to be channelized through proper implementation of skill development initiatives.’
