Tirupur (Tamil Nadu) : The NIFT – TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute, promoted by Tirupur garment exporters, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Union Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to impart skill development training to 5,000 rural youth.
“We will give short-term training to the rural youth in various garment related techniques such as merchandising, fashion designing, advance pattern making, and quality control, among a few other topics, in the first phase under the Government of India’s ambitious project named ‘Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana’ (DDU-GKY),” NIFT-TEA Institute chairman C.M.N. Muruganandan said.
Once the training was completed, the second phase of trainees could get allotted through an endorsement based on the performance in the first phase.
As per the MoU, the NIFT-TEA was committed to ensure that at least 50 percent of the candidates placed in employments get a monthly cost-to-company pay of Rs. 10,000 by the end of one year of placement.
The training centres to be set up by the NIFT-TEA Institute would be co-branded as ‘NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute – DDU-GKY Skills Academy’.
“Initially, the preference will be to train youth from rural areas around Tirupur,” said Mr. Muruganandan.
