Lucknow : In a move to provide opportunity to the children in conflict with law and street children to live dignified life, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) on Saturday signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh Government to collaborate for implementing various skill development programmes in the state.
The MoUs were signed between NSDC and Department of Home, Department of Women and Child Development in the presence of Justice Madan B. Lokur, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairperson Supreme Court Committee on Juvenile Justice, Justice Deepak Gupta and other dignitaries.
As per the MoU, the NSDC would create various skill development programs for around 11,000 children in the state.
The core objective of this two-year partnership is to foster reformative change, instill economic security and stability among such children through skill training and holistic development. The project endeavours to facilitate enhanced access to opportunities through wage employment and self-employment. The MoU lays focus on training of children in juvenile homes, Yuva centres and other such institutions run by the government and NGOs across 10 specified districts of UP.
Speaking on the occasion, Jayant Krishna, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, NSDC said “This is a pivotal move towards transforming the lives of children who have been unfortunate victims of adverse circumstances. This program aims not only to equip them with skill training, but it will also open doors of opportunities, which would go a long way in transforming their lives both socially and economically”.
“The project also intended to develop effective and sustainable programs for reducing juvenile crime and increasing youth potential. The department seeks to nurture a society of opportunities and inclusion by initiating skill training for the youth in the domain of their interest which would also help them to create a career for themselves”, Ms. Renuka Kumar, Principal Secretary, Department of Women and Child Development said.
NSDC, under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), has been implementing number of special projects with various law enforcement agencies. YUVA with Delhi Police, is a skill development program for vulnerable youth. NSDC is also working collaboratively with Department of Woman and Child Development, Government of Delhi for training of victims of trafficking.
