Haryana Government set target to engage 25,000 apprentices by September

Chandigarh : Haryana Government has set a target to engage 25,000 apprentices by September 2019 in the state.

“The State Government has started engaging apprentices in all departments, boards and corporations. So far, about 3,500 establishments have been registered thus generating 22,500 seats of apprenticeship and about 14,000 have been engaged against these seats,” said Haryana Skill Development and Industrial Training Minister, Vipul Goel while speaking at the national conference of state ministers on Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, at New Delhi on Friday.

During the conference, the Central Government has appreciated the efforts made by the Haryana Government in the field of apprenticeship for the youth of the state and termed Haryana as model-state.

Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan praised Haryana for various initiatives.

Speaking on the occasion, Haryana Minister Vipul Goel said that about 39,000 youth have been provided apprenticeship after implementation of National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme and about 9,900 private and government establishments have been registered.

The State Government has been making concerted efforts for promoting apprenticeship in government as well as private sector, he said.

Goel said that the State Government had rigorously started working on this scheme from the first year and Haryana was leading among other state in terms of engaging apprentices on the basis of per lakh population.

Appreciating this performance of Haryana, the Central Government had honoured Haryana with ‘Champion of Change Award’ in November 2017, said he.

The Minister further said that it has been decided to engage 20,000 apprentices in private sector by September 2019. Under the Apprentices Act, the establishment, which engage more than five per cent apprentices, would be honoured as ‘Saksham Sathi’. As many as 22 such private establishments were honoured in a state level function on March 1, 2018.

Haryana Skill Development Mission was launched in 2015 to ensure skill training facilities in the state. About 70,000 youth have been imparted training in different fields during 2017-18 and a target has been set to impart training to about 2.68 lakh youth in 2018-19, he added.

Goel also said that Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University has been established at district Palwal to generate international level skill training facility. The University has signed Memoranda of Understanding with leading companies and started ten courses under which theory would be taught in the university and practical would be carried out in companies.
