NCVT was set up in 1956, as an advisory body with a view to ensure and maintain uniformity in standards of training all over the country. The council acts as a central agency to advise the Government of India in framing the training policy and co-coordinating vocational training throughout India.
It is an apex tripartite body under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Directorate General of Training is working as secretariat to NCVT and Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is Chairman of the council.
