Expression of Interest invited to operationalize Skill on Wheels program

The primary objective of Punjab Skill Development Mission is to enable a large number of youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will improve their theoretical as well as practical knowledge and help them in securing a better livelihood by bringing necessary synergy, oversight and effective coordination. Punjab Skill Development Mission is bridging the gap between the skilled people required in Industry and the unemployed
youth by ensuring that the right candidate with passion for a particular job chooses the right course according to his/her academic background, aptitude and skill-set.

Punjab Skill Development Mission has been providing free skill development training to the youth across all the Districts of Punjab both in the urban and rural areas. PSDM has been training the youth of Punjab by imparting training through static training centres, To spread awareness about skill programs and taking the skill trainings to another level and to further tap the potential of the youth, a unique initiative in form of “Mobile Unit” is proposed. The project is titled “Skills on Wheels programme”. This will combine comprehensive vocational educational programs to harness the size, reach and technological resources. A customized bus, retrofitted with all the necessary tools and equipment to promote the Multi Skill vocational training. Aligned with the Government of
India’s ‘Skill India’ mission, the uniquely designed Mobile Units under “Skills on Wheels”,  will travel across the length and breadth of the state, and will spread awareness at grass root level about free Skill Training Programs of PSDM enabling youth in a bid to profoundly change the trajectory of skill training.

There are some specific target groups i.e. Persons with Special Abilities (PWDs), youth from Building and Other Construction Workers (BoCW) families, factories, MSME labourers etc. for whom there is a dire need of awareness about skill programs at their door steps. In this context also, Skills on Wheels is envisaged as an alternative which can help in reaching out to those who are yet not taking benefit of skill trainings. Under this initiative, vehicle duly equipped with tools and other related facilities shall arrive at the locations easily approachable all people and make them aware about free Skill training programmes available in the state. In order to encourage agencies having relevant expertise in the field of promoting skill development through wheels; Punjab Skill Development Mission invites proposals from eligible agencies having relevant experience and competency for promoting skill development through mobile units preferably Vans.
