VSO India invites Expression of Interest (EOI) for University Engagement, aims to establish volunteer management center

VSO India is a knowledge partner for civil society, government and the private sector to innovate, incubate and scale development initiatives. We engage highly skilled volunteers from India and across the globe as inputs into our programming which creates an additional impetus for achieving our ambitious goals. Young people are at the center of VSO India’s programme design and delivery. We believe in the power of youth and recognize them as innovators, enablers, leaders and advocates for a better India.

VSO believes that youth they benefit from participating in sustainable development as volunteers. Youth gain increased skills for employment, leadership development, change in attitudes and knowledge, and improved perception and recognition of young people within communities as a result of contributing to development. As these benefits don’t often come by chance, rather result from intentional programme design and support, there is immense opportunity to support youth to contribute to sustainable development results through volunteering and developing as leaders through structured approach and Professional programming.

VSO India is seeking to co-found an opportunity with Indian university/academic institution to establish a student volunteer management center at the university/department level for professional management of volunteering programmes.

Program Aim
Partner with Indian universities, academic institutions engaging young people in development processes through creating high impact volunteering opportunities, create carder of young leaders who further manage the professional student volunteering programmes at the university level.

The aim of the volunteer management center is to establish a student (youth) volunteering model, promote best practices, assess programme impact and success, address challenges and debate future scope and emerging opportunities in student volunteering. The Center will identify areas for impact and best methodology for volunteering within institutes and universities, co-create tools and approaches for intervention, and Promote professional engagement of student (young) people in development sector as volunteers to contribute to measuring development impact and achieve Sustainable Development Goals.

The center will also be a platform for sharing innovative ideas and develop methodologies for engaging young volunteers as ambassadors for contributing to the SDGs.

The role of the volunteer management center is to provide volunteering opportunity for students via preparing network of organisations around the universities, undertake research study, create evidence of effective way of volunteering, engaging individual to promote volunteering activities, finding collective solutions for critical social issues. The center will also organize various learning and capacity building trainings for the students, teacher and formation of cooperatives of volunteers for future actions.

If your university or academic institution is interested to set up a volunteer management center with expertise from VSO India, you can send your expression to VSO by the 13 September 2016.

Proposal should include: 
— Aims and objectives of the volunteer management center
— Current activities in the area of student volunteering undertaken by the institution
— Planned activities for student volunteering engagement
— Human resources and budget the institution will be willing to contribute to establish the volunteer management center.
