Maruti Suzuki Foundation calls for proposals for undertaking Base-line, Mid-line and Impact Assessment study

Maruti Suzuki’s (MSIL) CSR Projects are focused on following thematic areas: Community Development, Skill Development and Road Safety.

Community Development

MSIL has adopted neighboring villages for comprehensive social development. Several rounds of consultation with village community members and their representatives have led to the formulation of village development plans covering the critical areas for intervention. These include water, sanitation, common community assets creation, education and health.

Water: To provide the community with access to safe drinking water, MSIL has set up automated water dispensing units (Water ATMs) which provide communities with potable water at nominal rate.
Sanitation: To provide a hygienic environment in the adopted villages, MSIL has undertaken solid and liquid waste management initiatives such as laying of sewer lines, construction of household toilets and household waste collection and disposal. Behavioral change communication and awareness drives are integrated into project execution.
Common community assets: MSIL is committed to improving the overall quality of life in the villages. MSIL has constructed and renovated community halls and paved roads based on the needs of the community.
Education: The MSIL strives to enhance the enrollment, retention and learning levels of students in the government schools in the adopted villages. Support teachers have been engaged for mathematics, science and English, and teacher training is undertaken regularly in partnership with the Councils of Educational Research and Training. Teaching aids such as projectors have been provided to make teaching and learning more interactive and joyful. Other initiatives include renovation of classrooms, installation of blackboards, ensuring availability of drinking water and construction of toilets.

Skill Development

With the world’s largest youth demographically, there is a mismatch between the industry requirements and the skill sets of the youth in India. Focused to fill this skill gap and aligning with the vision of Skill India Mission, MSIL is undertaking the following programs to equip the youth with the required skills to participate and be a part of India’s growing economy:
Up gradation of Government ITIs: One of the earliest skill development initiatives of MSIL involves supporting Government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across India to provide quality training programmes covering all manufacturing trades. The intervention areas include upgrading workshop infrastructure, facilitating training on industry oriented add-on curriculum, enhancing industry exposure for trainers and students, and imparting soft skills to make the students industry-ready.
Skill enhancement in automobile trades: Recognizing the gap between the training imparted at ITIs and the skills required for gainful employment, MSIL has set up Automobile Skill Enhancement Centres
(ASEC) in select Government-run ITIs across India. The ASECs are model workshops where practical training is given to students by fulltime trainers provided by MSIL on automobile trades such as Auto Body Repair (ABR) and Auto Body Painting (ABP).
Japan India Institute for Manufacturing, Mehsana: In 2017-18, a highlight of MSIL’s skill development programme was the launch of the first Japan India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM). Born out of an agreement between the Governments of Japan and India to create a pool of 30,000 skilled manpower for manufacturing in India, the JIM was set up by MSIL at A. S. Patel (Pvt.) Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Ganpat University at Mehsana in Gujarat. It is a model ITI offering courses in eight trades related to automobile manufacturing, maintenance and services. The unique features of the institute are the mini vehicle assembly line, safety lab, virtual welding simulators and spot welding guns, which have been installed for hands-on learning.
Japan India Institute for Manufacturing, Uncha Majra: Haryana’s first Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Uncha Majra, Gurugram today opened admissions for its first batch of students.
Affiliated to National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and accredited by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), JIM Uncha Majra offers eight courses. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki will provide training in soft skills and Japanese shop floor practices in the areas of safety, quality, discipline, punctuality, Kaizen, 3G and 5S, which are most essential to be successful at the workplace.

Road Safety

Multiple initiatives have been introduced by MSIL to encourage citizens towards safe driving. Providing skills, knowledge and attitudinal inputs to both road users and road drivers MSIL has reached out to key stakeholders since the year 2000. MSIL is undertaking the following programs:

Automated driving test centres: Recognizing the importance of a stringent driving license system and the initiative of the Government of Delhi to reform the current licensing process, MSIL has partnered with the Department of Transport to set up 12 Automated Driving Test Centres. Through these centres, MSIL will support the Government in making the driving licensing system transparent, stringent and efficient, ultimately contributing to safe roads.
Technology-driven traffic management system: MSIL joined hands with Delhi Police to implement an advanced Traffic Safety Management System (TSMS), a first-of-its-kind in the city, to promote use of technology to bring behavioral change among commuters and reduce number of road accidents and encourage compliance to traffic rules.
Driving training programmes: MSIL’s driving training programmes are aimed at producing quality drivers for Indian roads. Over the years, these programmes have covered various sections of the society across the country. MSIL manages seven Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) in partnership with state governments.
