Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) to start classes of first batch from October 1

Kollam : Classes for the first batch of students will begin at the Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC), Chavara, an initiative of the Department of Labour, on October 1.

During the first phase, there will be three technician-level courses, one supervisory-level course, and three managerial courses.

Certificate in Painting and Finishing Works, Advanced Certificate programme in Bar-bending and Steel fixing, and Advanced Certificate in Housekeeping are the technical-level courses currently offered by IIIC. Other courses include Advanced Certificate programme in Plumbing Engineering, PG Diploma in Urban Planning and Architecture, PG Diploma in Advanced Construction Management, and Graduateship programme for Civil Engineering graduates.

During the first phase, there will be around 300 students, but by the end of 2018, the number is expected to exceed 600 with the introduction of more skill-development programmes. During the second phase, the institute will offer more graduateship programmes along with advanced courses in IT and data science.

Graduateship courses

There will be graduateship courses in Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics, IT and Computer Science, PGD in Analytics, Internet of Things, Block chain technology, data science, entrepreneurship, safety in oil and petroleum, advanced electrician, e-commerce, ITeS, HVAC engineering, Pipe engineering, and automobile design.

“All these programmes are aimed at improving the employability of engineering graduates and unemployed youths.

There will also be managerial courses for science graduates, diploma and ITI certificate holders, and those who completed Plus 2 and SSLC.

National Academy of Construction, Hyderabad, is providing technical collaborations for the academic programmes, including orientation programme for technical staff,” said T.P. Sethumadhavan, director, IIIC.
