Bhubaneswar : Fasteners Association of India (FAI), an umbrella organization for Indian fastener industries partnered with Eva Positive, has set up its first skill training centre here with an objective to promote excellence in growth and quality in automotive and general engineering manufacturing sectors. Speaking at the inaugural function of the centre, PFA vice president Gurucharan Singh Bhullar said there is a critical gap between the demand and availability of trained manpower in the country and the training centre would endeavor to fill it up.
According to NASSCOM study, only 20 percent of the total engineers passed out of the country are employable as there is a critical gap between the syllabus and the industry requirement. The training centre would train the ITI, diploma and degree engineers and would make them industry ready. He said, the fastener industry is poised for a high growth in the next decade and to meet the requirement of manpower the FAI and Eva positive have decided to set up the training centre.
Mr Bhullar said the size of the global fastener industry is about 83 billion dollars and India’s share is only 5 percent. But it is growing by 7.4 percent every year and the size of the Fastener industry in India is likely to touch 5 billion dollar by 2020. He said, the size of the Indian market is very small in comparison to other countries. For example Taiwan which is less than the size of Kerala has a market share 15 percent of the global market. Mr Bhulla said the FAI-EVA positive have targeted to produce 40 students in every two months from the centre.
