Hero MotoCorp inaugurates Centre of Excellence for Women to encourage skill development

Gurugram : In keeping with its commitment to create equitable employment opportunities for women by promoting their skill sets, Hero MotoCorp Ltd, the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, today inaugurated the first-ever training centre – The Centre of Excellence for Women- at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Women, at Ambala in Haryana.

Launched in association with the Skill Development and Industrial Training Department, Government of Haryana and United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Centre will build key skill-set amongst women, thereby enhancing employment opportunities for them in the automotive industry. The industrial training will be imparted to women in a fully functional technician training labs set up under this association.

Launched under Ek Pahal – a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Hero MotoCorp -, the ITI Women, Ambala will also have a two-wheeler riding training facility for women, with the aim of empowering them through personal mobility.

Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ambala and Mr. Vijay Sethi, Chief Information Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer & Head Corporate Social Responsibility, Hero MotoCorp, inaugurated the learning facility.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Vijay Sethi, said, “Hero MotoCorp has always believed in promoting gender diversity and women empowerment. This is a unique initiative that aims at instilling certain distinctive skill sets in modern automotive technologies amongst women, thereby significantly enhancing their employment opportunities and career prospects. We believe that initiatives such as these go a long way in creating a gender-diverse and inclusive workforce in the automotive industry.”

With the stated objective of ‘HUNAR SE KAMYABI TAK’ (FROM SKILLING TO SUCCESS), Hero MotoCorp has so far imparted skills training to more than 20,000 youth across the country.

The Centre of Excellence is equipped with conventional learning facilities, including a fully automated technician training labs with pneumatic tools and precision equipment. In addition, live cut sections of Hero Engines and other two-wheeler parts have also been installed to help the trainees gain hands-on expertise in latest automobile technologies. The learning modules would be conducted by a fully trained faculty, helping the students grasp theoretical as well as practical know-how of the processes of repair and maintenance of twowheelers.
