Infosys opens Skill Training Centre for specially-abled children

Tumkur: Under the philanthropic and CSR initiative named Infosys Foundation, Infosys inaugurated a Skill Training Development Centre in Tumakuru, Karnataka, which will impart specific job-oriented skills to specially-abled children.

As part of the infrastructure upgradation of an existing residential school run by the Indian Redcross Society, Tumakuru, the new Skill Training Development Center is aimed at reducing student dropouts by offering more skill-based learning opportunities and providing better infrastructure facilities. Presently, skill-based training for tailoring and carpentry is offered, with plans to include electrical, computer, and plumbing training soon.

Infosys Foundation has also constructed a hostel facility at this school, which is home to around 120 students, from standards 1 to 10. The Foundation has granted a sum of INR 11 crore towards the infrastructure upgradation of this 35-year-old school. These new facilities were inaugurated by J.C. Madhu Swamy, Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Karnataka, on March 20, 2023, in the presence of Sunil Kumar Dhareshwar, Trustee, Infosys Foundation.

This initiative further advances the Infosys Foundation and Indian Redcross Society’s collective vision of empowering communities through training and education and supporting rural development in India. The Foundation believes that access to quality learning and education will create sustainable livelihood opportunities, accelerate economic growth in rural India, raise the underprivileged’s aspirations, and provide them with the means to achieve dignified lives.
