Nagpur : The city is all set to get first ever skills development training centre. L&T Construction will develop the centre on Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s abandoned school land at Babulban in East Nagpur.
The NMC standing committee in the meeting recently held has approved the estate department’s proposal to lease out the sprawling 75,000 sq ft land to L&T Construction for 30 years at a nominal rate. Now the proposal will be tabled before general body and then the state government for final approval.
L&T Construction is operating similar centres at eight locations in the nation Panvel in the state, New Delhi, Kolkata, Cuttack, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.
Mayor Pravin Datke told that the centre will be based on construction field. “I thank union minister Gadkari and L&T Construction for bringing the centre to the city. Nagpur badly needs increase in employment. It will help in grooming 1,200 youths from the city every year to get employment and self-employment,” he said.
Municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar said L&T Construction’s centres are very reputable and beneficial. “The Proposal is to give lease of land to L&T at the rate of Rs 1 per sq ft. L&T may also induct passouts at the centre itself.”
As per the proposal, L&T will renovate the school building at the cost of Rs 50 lakh and develop the centre, spending a total around Rs 3.50 crore. Training of 3 months and 6 months will be provided to those who have passed HSC.
The centre will give training for seven types of workers: Lab technician (pavement), surveyor, pavement layer and pavement layer assistant, plant & machinery operator for grader, compactor, paver, WMM plant, kerb casting machine, plant & machinery maintenance for auto electrician and plant operation, pre-stressed technician and civil assistants on paving, concrete, formwork and bar-bending. Even girls can also avail the facility.
L&T Construction has made its presence in the city recently by bagging Rs 520 crore Smart City Solutions Project.
Also an initiative of Gadkari, NMC has started the process to develop Skill Development University and Management Centre on PPP model at Wathoda in East Nagpur. It will come up on 102 acres of land. It will take three to four years to complete.
