Rajampet : A Rayalaseema regional-level workshop on ‘Technical skill development institute of APSSDC-Siemens Project’ was conducted by the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) for principals of diploma (polytechnic) colleges on the Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences (AITS) campus in Rajampet on Wednesday.
Varied programmes
APSSDC Director Ganta Subba Rao, who is also the Special Secretary for the newly-formed Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, expressed confidence that the varied training programmes conducted through Siemens Centres of Excellence would enable the State to achieve double-digit growth in employability among youth.
Skilled trainers
“Siemens, in association with the State government, has established labs having world-class technology on a par with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the skilled trainers in various technologies will look after the operations of the machines, equipment and training at centres instituted by the corporation,” Dr. Rao said.
Critical thinking
APSSDC founder-Director K. Lakshminarayana advised the teachers to use machines set up in the skill development centres and called for honing of critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills to make students employable.
Bridging the gap
Siemens Project Director B. Nageswara Rao laid stress on higher involvement levels among teachers to bridge the gap between industry and institution, while associate director S.V.V. Ramana spoke on the importance of human resources in national development. Annamacharya group vice-chairman C. Yella Reddy and AITS principal S.M.V. Narayana also spoke at the regional-level workshop in Kadapa.
