Chennai : Kamarajar Port has taken up Skill development training under CSR initiatives for the local fishermen community at a cost of Rs.1,57,50,000/-. The training will be imparted by MRF Institute of Driver Development, Chennai and National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Hyderabad.
The training by MRF Institute has already started. KPL is incurring the cost of training, transport and also stipend. MRF Institute will give training to 196 applicants in driving. The National Institute of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Hyderabad will give training to 865 applicants in the trade of Lab technician, tailoring/garment making, AC & Refrigeration mechanic, electrician, wire-man, welding, motor rewinding and mobile phone servicing.
The above initiatives will make the local fishermen skilled in various trades and make them employable. This initiative was taken up as per the recommendation of NABARD consultants, appointed by KPL who have conducted the baseline survey of nearby villages.
