Dhaka : The government is going to launch a programme, ‘Advanced Certification for Management Professionals (ACMP)’, to provide IT and IT Enabled Services (ITES) with a focus on training programmes for the mid-level managers of IT firms to boost the country’s ICT sector, reports UNB.
Officials said the government has engaged UK-based Ernst and Young (EY) to launch ACMP on 10 August next in partnership with leading academic institutions of Bangladesh.
The World Bank-financed Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment Governance (LICT) Project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) of ICT Division has appointed EY to provide technical and non-technical world-class training to over 500 mid-level managers of IT firms, the officials said.
State minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the lack of skills is a consistent challenge faced by almost all IT/ITES companies locally and globally.
In line with its Digital Bangladesh vision, the government is trying to create a competitive advantage through skill development to take forward the country’s ICT sector, he said.
Palak said the EY has been asked to make a partnership with leading academic institutions of the country to launch the ACMP for enhancing the skills of mid-level managers who are playing a vital role in developing their own IT firms.
“Reputed academic institutions’ partnership with their international counterparts will be a quick win for the industry,” the ICT state minister said.
EY project director of Business Advisory Services Bidyut Thakur said the EY has already conducted a survey on skill gap of the IT managers of Bangladesh’s IT firms and analyzed the findings and talked to the stakeholders to prepare a training module based on the that.
The training will be held on Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud (SMAC), Networking and Security, Big Data Analytics, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT), Project Management, Customer Management, People Management skills, he said.
LICT project director Md Rezaul Karim said the ACMP programme will cover 200-hour long training for each batch to be formed involving mid-level managers like team leaders, associate managers and managers of IT firms.
“It’ll be an extensive training programme to improve the skills of mid-level managers,” he said.
Component team leader of LICT Project Sami Ahmed said similar training programmes have already been developed by academic institutions like the La Salle University in the Philippines and the Indian School of Business (ISB) in India.
