The Ethiopian Ambassador to Jamaica, Girma Biruu, said that companies in his country are bound by law to hire trainees under it’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. He was speaking during a special visit to the HEART Trust/NTA’s offices in Kingston.
The discussion led to disclosures of shared practices between the Jamaican and Ethiopian training systems.
“We have over 27 million students who are trained and certified under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, which is the training system you also have here. We also work alongside the different private sectors to assist our trainees,” said the Ambassador.
Additionally, the Ambassador acknowledged the HEART Trust’s efforts to prepare and suitably place its trainees to meet both present and emerging job opportunities through extensive labour market research. The visit hosted by the HEART Trust/NTA is aimed at strengthening the bond between the two countries.
