India-Austria partners for Advancing Skill Development and Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Vienna: At the invitation of Chancellor Mr. Karl Nehammer, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid an official visit to Austria from July 9-10, 2024. During his visit, the Prime Minister called on H.E. Alexander Van der Bellen, President of Austria, and held bilateral discussions with Chancellor Nehammer. 

During his first visit to Austria, The Prime Minister and the Chancellor underscored the shared values of democracy, freedom, international peace and security, and a rules-based international order with the UN Charter at its core. They highlighted the shared historical linkages and long-standing ties at the heart of the growing enhanced partnership between India and Austria. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to deepening and widening bilateral, regional, and international cooperation for a more stable, prosperous, and sustainable world.

Recognizing the potential to significantly upgrade their bilateral partnership, Chancellor Nehammer and Prime Minister Modi agreed to adopt a strategic approach to advance this shared objective. They emphasized a future-oriented bilateral sustainable economic and technology partnership, covering a range of new initiatives and joint projects. These include collaborative technology development, research and innovation, and business-to-business engagement in green and digital technologies, infrastructure, renewable energy, water management, life sciences, education & skill development, smart cities, mobility, and transportation.

Both leaders acknowledged the importance of skill development and the mobility of skilled personnel to support expanded engagement in high-tech sectors. In this regard, they welcomed the operationalization of the bilateral Migration and Mobility Agreement, providing an institutional framework to facilitate such exchanges while combating irregular migration.

Chancellor Nehammer and Prime Minister Modi encouraged academic institutions from both countries to build future-oriented partnerships focused on mutual interests, particularly in science, technology, and engineering.

This historic visit by Prime Minister Modi marks a significant milestone in the India-Austria relationship, setting the stage for a new era of collaboration and mutual growth.
