Bangkok : The Thai Ministry of Labour is promoting skills development among workers in the Mekong region in preparation for ASEAN’s free labour movement.
Thai Labour Minister Adul Saengsingkaew presided over the certificate granting ceremony for some 70 workers who have completed skill development courses at the International Labour Skill Development Institute in Chiang Rai.
He said the courses were provided as part of the national strategy to promote the competitiveness which extends to workers from neighbouring countries such as Laos, who have participated in the training programmes, and will be able to pass on the knowledge to other people.
The Chiang Saen International Skill Development Institute in Chiang Rai was established as a skill development centre serving the Mekong region’s economic corridor, covering Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and southern China.
The institute is aimed to help promote positive relations among the general public between these countries in bid to enhance their capabilities and promote international cooperation.
