Chennai : Under Skill India Mission, as many as 888 training centres (TCs) have been accredited and affiliated in State of Tamil Nadu including Cuddalore, said Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
In a reply to the question raised in Lok Sabha, the Minister said, “Under Skill India Mission, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is implementing the flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 2016-20.”
PMKVY 2016-20 does not make mandatory to establish the skill development centres, however, it enables large number of prospective youth for taking up Short Term Training (STT) courses and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) courses through accredited and affiliated training centers/training providers (TCs/TPs) throughout the country including in the State of Tamil Nadu, he added.

For imparting the skill training, the accreditation and affiliation of TCs is being done through the application known as SMART (Skill Management and Accreditation of Training Centres), he mentioned.
He stated “As on 12th June 2019, a total 888 TCs have been accredited and affiliated in State of Tamil Nadu which includes Cuddalore.”
Further he stated that the Ministry also promotes establishment of model and aspirational skill centres known as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) in every district throughout the country for imparting skill training under the scheme.

Through National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) provides capital expenditure of up to 75 percent of the project investment as well as operational support to each PMKK, Pandey added further.
Till now, 41 PMKKs have been allocated in 32 districts including Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. Out of allocated PMKKs, 28 PMKKs have been already established. PMKK at Cuddalore district has been established by UTL Technologies Limited, the Minister stated.
