New Delhi : The government has de-affiliated 400 Industrial Training Institutes after its quality inspections found that they lacked proper infrastructure and trainers, PTI reported on Sunday.
Industrial Training Institutes across India teach vocational trades such mechanics and tailoring, among others, to students after secondary school. The government’s vocational training programmes cater to about 36% of the 70 lakh people enrolled in such training programmes in India.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is monitoring institutes to maintain their quality, Joint Secretary Rajesh Agarwal told PTI. “We are trying to see that centres or institutes that are not up to the mark or quality are slowly sent out of the system,” he said, adding that about 5,100 ITIs had been graded so far and are getting inspected.
