New Delhi : After retirement of Shri Rohit Nandan, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, IAS Dr KP Krishnan has took over the charge as new secretary to the ministry.
The appointed is based on the approval of appointment by Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on 9th Jan, 2017. It was decided in the month of November itself that Krishnan would succeed Rohit Nandan as secretary in the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, as Nandan is set to retire in January end. A Tamil from Delhi, Krishnan was allotted Karnataka cadre, which is why he is fluent in four languages — English, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada.
Dr K P Krishnan possesses LLB, MBA, MA and PhD in economics. He did his doctorate in economics and finance from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. As an IAS he served both in the state and the Centre. He is 1983 batch Karnataka cadre IAS. In early 2000s, he was the managing director of Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Ltd. In Karnataka, he served as secretary in urban development and finance departments.
Between 2005 and 2010, he was a joint secretary in the department of economic affairs (DEA) under the ministry of finance before getting appointed as secretary of the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to the Prime Minister in the rank and pay of a GoI joint secretary. In department of economic affairs, he handled subjects such as capital markets.
He then became resident commissioner in Delhi’s Karnataka Bhawan before re-joining the finance ministry, as additional secretary and Director General in directorate of currency. Since, October 2014 he has been serving as additional secretary and then special secretary in the department of land resources under the ministry of rural development.
