Kochi (Kerala) : The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has approved the second phase of a Rubber Board project for skill development in the rubber plantation sector under the Pradhan Mantri KaushalVikas Yojana (PMKVY).
The project proposes to impart Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) training to 22,000 persons in rubber tapping and processing in Kerala, Tripura and Assam. Of the ₹6.17 crore allocated, ₹4.76 crore will go to Kerala for training 17,000 persons, and ₹1.41 crore to Assam and Tripura to re-skill 5,000 persons.
In its first phase, the project helped train 10,000 persons in Kerala. The second project will be implemented by the Board in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation and Rubber Skill Development Council over the next six months.
The Board has also submitted proposals to the MSDE for special projects to skill another 9,000 persons in Kerala and north-eastern States, at a financial outlay of ₹7.30 crore. Projects are also being planned in the processing and manufacturing sectors for implementation in 2017-18.
To address the requirement for skilled manpower, it is proposed to certify all rubber tappers in the country by 2020 under the PMKVY.
