New Delhi : The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) on 9 November 2017 hosted the National Entrepreneurship Awards 2017 marking the completion of three glorious years of its inception.
The National Entrepreneurship Awards (NEA) was instituted by the Skill Development Ministry in 2016 to encourage a culture of entrepreneurship across the country.
This year was the second edition of the awards and it saw participation from 2880 applicants out of which 45 were shortlisted and finally 15 winners across defined categories were announced and awarded.
On the occasion, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said program like skill and entrepreneurship development were needed to provide employment to large population especially to 1 crore youth joining the workforce in the country.
While giving away the National Entrepreneurship Awards 2017 on the occasion of 3rd Foundation Day of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Mr Jaitley said, ”As of now, there is a limited capacity of job creation in the country.” He said, “Though we have Government, Public Sector Enterprises and large industries who provides huge employments, but it is not possible for them to provide employment to all those who need it”.
So, it’s the need of the hour to skill them and make them entrepreneurs so that they could provide more and more employment,” he said. The Finance Minister said many countries are facing difficulties in getting workable workforce, but it is our fortune that we have such a large young workforce and we need to skill them. Our workforce serve other countries too.
On the occasion, Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan said the government is focused on skilling of manpower so that they could become able to provide better employability for the industries.
He added that his Government is providing all support to start ups so that they could do better and provide jobs to much more people.
Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India, in his address said, ”Japan is ready to provide all sort of support in this field. Japan believes that strong India is good for Japan and similarly strong Japan is good for India.”
On the occasion, Chanda Kochhar, Chairperson, Governing Council, ICICI Foundation received the award in the category of ‘Champions of Change in Skill Development Ecosystem’ from Arun Jaitley, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs for ICICI Foundation’s contribution to society through ICICI Academy for Skills (ICICI Academy) and ICICI Digital Villages, ICICI Foundation provides vocational training, free of cost to a large number of unemployed, underprivileged youth.
