Skills Development Ministry may fall short of its skills training target : Minister

Skills Development Ministry may fall short of its skills training target under flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana with government having imparted training to 73.47 lakh youth under the scheme till January 17, 2020, skills minister Mahendra Nath Pandey said.

Under the PMKVY-2.0, launched in October 2016, ministry had targeted to impart skill training to one crore youth for over four years (2016-20). Out of this, 60,00,000 was the target under short-term training while 40,00,000 was the target under the recognition of prior learning (RPL) component for 2016-20.

As on 17.01.2020, 40.27 lakh candidates have been trained under short term training (STT) and 33.20 lakh candidates have been oriented under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) across the country,” minister said on Lok Sabha.

Besides, the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship has launched a pilot project for economic empowerment for women, skill development minister Mahendra Nath Pandey said.

MSDE in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaftf fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) of Germany has launched a pilot project called Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs and Start-ups by Women to support aspiring and existing women entrepreneurs in India, minister said in a separate question in Lok Sabha. Presently, this pilot programme is being implemented in the north eastern region (Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur), Rajasthan and Telangana where 147 women have been given incubation and acceleration support as part of its first cohorts.
