Lucknow : Ram Kumar always wanted to be an earning member for his family. But his lower educational qualification often proved to be a roadblock. Life took an interesting turn on Monday, when Ram Kumar – a class 8th pass – got a chance to appear before an on the spot interview at the Rozgaar Mela being held at Colvin Taluqdars College ground. The programme is organized by the National Skill Development Corporation (under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship).
Thousands of job seekers, especially students virtually defied the Bharatbandh call given by political parties (against Centre’s demonetization), and turned up at the programme venue to hunt the best possible job for themselves.
Elaborating further about the programme, Jaikant Singh, head of NSDC’s Partnership and State Alliance, said, “Students with a wide range of educational qualifications ranging from Class V to post-graduate are turning up at the job fair to get the best possible job for themselves. Here, employability takes a precedence over educational qualification to some extent.”
He further stated that of the nearly 10,000 students who turned up on Monday, almost 60% of them have taken classes in skill development. Singh said that such a job fair is being held for the first time in Lucknow, while prior to this, a similar event was held in Varanasi.
When asked whether demonetization has impacted the job seekers, Bhaskar Singh, a resident of Barabnki, who came with his nephew, said, “Most of the students who are coming here, have to change their mode of transport nearly three times. And, it is they who need the change money (chillar) the most. If despite all the adverse situation, the students are coming here in search of a good job, then it is very evident that they have challenged the Bharatbandh call.”
