NSDC facilitated jobs for 207 Bru tribal women under pilot phase of special projects

New Delhi : ​The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has said it had ensured placement of the second batch of skilled women from the Bru tribe in Tripura under the pilot phase of ‘Special Projects’ component of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

Along with its training partner, ValeurFabtex Pvt. Ltd., NSDC said it had ensured placements to 87 women in a knitted-garment manufacturing company – Quantum Knits, a unit of KPR Mills Ltd., Coimbatore, an NSDC release said.

The placement letters to the 87 tribal girls was handed over S.K. Panda, IAS, Chairman, Executive Committee, Tripura Skill Development Mission.

Previously, during the first placement drive, 120 skilled women candidates from the tribe were provided employment by the same organization, it added.

Manish Kumar, CEO & MD, NSDC said: “We are are extremely optimistic that the project will provide a fresh lease of life not only to the candidates but also their families and will inspire many others in the community.”

NSDC said during the seven-month programme that began in March and ended in September, over 300 women have been trained in different job roles, such as two-shaft handloom operator, hand embroiderer and self-employed tailor in the textile and apparel sectors.
