National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd (KIOCL), in order to give a major boost to the Government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign and ‘Skill India’ movement. A joint curriculum for skill development programs in mining and steel sector will be developed by both the teams. The MoU was signed by Jayant Krishna, CEO, NSDC and Shri N Vidyananda, Director, Production and Projects, KIOCL in the presence of Malay Chatterjee, CMD, KIOCL.
The metal and mining industry of India has recorded a strong 19.8 per cent expansion in 2011 to touch US$ 141.9 billion and is expected to reach 305.5 billion during 2015. Production volumes have also been growing steadily over the years at a CAGR of 5.2 per cent. India’s iron and steel exports increased at a CAGR of 4.2 per cent to US$ 8.1 billion over FY2008-13. Demand for various metals and minerals will grow substantially over the next 15 years and India is 4th largest iron ore producer in the world, will need huge skilled manpower supply to support the growing Industry. India’s per capita steel consumption is four times lower than the global average, which is expected to increase rapidly in the years to come.
