New Delhi : Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said that the MSME Ministry will soon announce an entrepreneurship and skill training programme for ‘divyangs’ (specially-abled) in an attempt to promote their talent and create a market for their products.
Inaugurating ‘EKAM Fest’– a week-long exhibition and sale of handicrafts, textiles and hand-looms products of artisans, traders/ entrepreneurs, belonging to ”people with disabilities”, Gadkari said that the scheme will be worked out in consultation with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (SJE) and Textiles.
The government wants to encourage, expose and provide opportunities for their products, the minister said. Union Minister also said that the high quality of products displayed in the Ekam Fest proves that the Divyangjan artisans and entrepreneurs have enormous potential and capability and they can play an important role in the overall development of the country.
He also mentioned that MSME sector has very vast potential of employment and self-employment of the specially-abled, especially Divyang women artisans can take advantage of various useful schemes of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

More than 82 Divyang entrepreneurs, artisan and organisations, including 44 men and 38 women, from 18 States and Union Territories showcased their products and various crafts here.
While praising the artisans and entrepreneurs for displaying their skills with products ranging from handicrafts, handloom and embroidery work, Textiles Minister Smriti Irani said that Indian traditional clothes have a very rich history and are in high demand in our country and abroad and offer a vast potential of employment.
Irani assured international marketing assistance to the textile/handloom products produced and marketed by them. She also promised free distribution of handloom tool kits for the disabled weavers through the textile ministry.
Meanwhile, Social Justice Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot said the exhibition, organised by the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHDFC) under his ministry was aimed at providing an avenue for the display and marketing of the products made by people with disabilities.
”It is an opportunity for all to encourage these products made with extraordinary determination by here present craftspersons and entrepreneurs,” he added.
Ministers of State for SJ & E Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar and Shri Rattan Lal Kataria were also present on the occasion. The week-long fest is also hosting a number of activities like cultural extravaganza including performances by Divyang artists and well-known professionals.
