Ministry of Labour, CII and Wheebox jointly launch Model Career Centre in Mumbai

Mumbai : To increase employment avenues for the job-seekers, The Ministry of Labour & Employment in association with CII & Wheebox (an Online skill assessment company) launched a  Model Career Centre (MCC) in Mumbai.

Model Career Centre (MCC), is a project of DGET, Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE) through National Career Service (NCS). The model career center is a step above the employment exchanges across the nation which principally serve as registers of employed people. The candidates will be provided with counseling and assessment, soft skill training, technical up skilling and placement. These training will help the candidates in securing right career choice as per their aptitude. It will also provide an opportunity in bridging the skills requirement by industry with the workforce available. CII Naoroji Godrej Model Career Centre in Mumbai is the first model career centre in Maharashtra.

MCC plays an pivotal role in individual career progression & there are two levels of intervention by MCC – advisory & professional services. The process initiates with Skills, Interest Mapping & Career Guidance followed by Skills Assessment & Career Planning & lastly Talent Transformation & Progression.

To avail employment opportunity, candidates can visit the official website or visit MCC centres located in Mumbai & Gurgaon. An online career interest test is taken by candidates mapping their interest to occupation. On the basis of the test results career guidance counseling sessions are provided which are Face-to-face / skype interaction & One week online support. For further advancement of their career, five to ten day courses for skill enhancement has to be pursued. These courses are  on subjects like PD & Grooming Etiquette & Professionalism Business Communication – Report writing, Presentation Skills, Managing Meetings, Email Writing, Industry speak which are availed by the candidates.

After the completion of the course, employability test is taken by the candidates followed by Face to face counselor interaction & online counselling assistance. Lately,  MCC helps & prepares the candidates for placement & employment which includes Interview prep sessions, CV making, direct placement opportunities, job fairs, on-boarding feedback,  updating work experience & providing progression opportunities.

Bandaru Dattatreya, Union Minister for Labour & Employment was pleased to state that six more Model Career Centres would be opened in the state during the year. He emphasized on the importance of National Career Service Portal and the Model Career Centres to match ‘skills to jobs’, noting that more than 10 million workforce enter the job market every year, it is important to map them to meet the future needs of the industry.. The minister emphasized on the fact that the Model Career Centres would go a long way in bridging the skill requirement by industry with the workforce available.

According to Ashish Kesharwani, GM CII-Model Career Centres, “This initiave would help in  linking youth (job seekers) with job & career opportunities (job providers) through counseling & training. This would make employment easy for the youth. With industry partnerships like the one in Mumbai – CII Naoroji Godrej Model Centre, this would not only be fruitful but also relevant to achieve the goal.”

According to Nirmal Singh, Co-founder & CEO ; Wheebox “ We are pleased to announce our association in this unique initiative of enhancing skills of today’s youth. Today we are facing challenge of unemployability rather than employment; there are jobs in the market, and there are youth who want to do those jobs. But somewhere there’s a disconnect.”

He further added, “This kind of  platform will build transparency and keep a trail of skilled resources who were placed through it. This exchange would match jobs to skilled resources not on the basis of mere education qualification or experience, but on true competencies on select trades, thereby encouraging skills as key selection criteria.”

The candidates are  placed in different industry verticals  like Automobile , BFSI, Healthcare, Retail, Tourism & Hospitality, IT & ITeS, Media & Entertainment etc.
