Ludhiana : Nearly 100 students, who had undergone a six-month course under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) from a private institute, were in for a shock when the bank authorities denied them the reward money as promised on the completion of the course.
Amarjot Kaur, a resident of Dugri, said a few days ago she received messages on her mobile phones stating that her reward amount has been issued by the government.
“I visited the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Dugri and showed them the message. The bank employees said the amount has been deposited in the account of the private institute and I have to visit Delhi to collect the money,” Amarjot said.
She said as many as 100 students, who had undergone the training, have been denied the scholarship. In the six-month course, students were imparted sales and production marketing training.
The matter came to light when the students approached Sukhdhir Singh Sekhon, president of Nav Chetna Bal Bhalai Committee. He said they complained that the institute had denied them the reward money stating that it has borne the expenses of the training.
“The money belongs to the poor students and the institute has no right to keep it. We will take up the issue with the authorities concerned so that the money could be shifted in the account of students,” said Sukhdhir. Despite repeated attempts the private institute authorities were not available for comments.
