Greater Noida : After the success of its innovative model in diploma programmes, Amity University, Greater Noida Campus, has now decided to roll-out another industry-academia partnership led innovative program giving student the benefits of “Degree” tag and employability feature of skill development at its Amity School of Skill Development & Vocational Training.
Amity’s skill division Director General, Lt General Jatinder Sikand, AVSM,VSM(Retd) told that, Amity in consonance with UGC Regulations will commence B Voc (Bachelor in Vocation) programmes in four disciplines at its Greater Noida campus from the Academic Year 2017-18. Initially the B Voc program will be started in Building Construction Technology, Refrigeration & Air-conditioning, Power Distribution Management, and Software Development.
He shared that, the program will have the unique features of multiple exit and entry points. 60 percent of the curriculum will be skill based and it will have the provision for skill certifications through respective sector skill councils. B Voc.degree programmes commencing at Amity University’s Greater Noida Campus in July 2017, will offer great promise for enhancing employability of the youth.
Deputy Manager, Amity skills division Deputy Manager, Ms Archana Thakran told SkillReporter that major efforts have been made to mesh skill training into higher education. Students pursuing undergraduate studies are being guided and trained to attain skill certification of sector skill councils, in selected job roles associated with their primary discipline, she said.
In order to make academically low scoring candidates join the employment race, the eligibility criterion is relaxed with lower entry percentage barrier. Students with minimum 50 percent marks in Class 10+2 with PCM can apply to take admission., she added.
While talking on the success of such program, she shared that, university is also delivering German Model of dual education based Amity’s diploma programmes in 16 different engineering/management disciplines and allied areas.The diploma students are affiliated with major industries for long-term internship on a 5+1 model i.e. five days a week in the industry and one day back in the campus, during the internship period. Knowledge and skill thus goes hand in hand and students get good work opportunities in the industry.
