Central Government soon to introduce skill development courses for defence personnel : Lt.Gen. P M Hariz

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) : The Central Government would soon introduce skill development courses for defence personnel who are on the verge of retirement and ex-servicemen and the two should use those to the full, Lt.Gen. P.M. Hariz said here on Sunday.

Addressing ex-servicemen at the ex-servicemen rally for Dakshin Bharat Area, organized by the Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington, he said that the objective of the scheme was to gain skill and make a living once they retired. The Government planned to extend it to ex-servicemen who had retired in the recent past.

This would be in addition to the placement cell the Government had opened for the ex-defence personnel, he said and added that for the welfare of the ex-servicemen, the Government was taking various steps which they should utilize.

Lt. Gen. Hariz also asked the ex-servicemen to make use of the online facility made available for availing of scholarship or other benefits the Government ordered. There was also a call centre.

The Madras Regimental Centre had organized the event for ex-servicemen in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Tirupur districts to provide awareness on services and facilities available at various defence establishments and sort out pension- and health benefits- related problems.

Lt. Gen. R.K. Anand, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area, was present along with Lt. Gen. (retd.) S.L. Narasimhan, Brigadier S.K. Sangwan and other officials. Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj was also present.
