China took the top spot at the 45th WorldSkills Competition held in Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday. China finished the competition with 16 gold medals, 14 silver and 5 medals in total, putting China at the top of the medal rankings, according to the final tally announced at the closing ceremony on Tuesday night.
After China, Korea won the second highest position followed by Switzerland famous as SwissSkills, the top European team.
Switzerland has won 16 medals, including five gold, at the WorldSkills competition – a kind of Olympics for trade skills – in Kazan in western Russia. The Swiss team, known as SwissSkills, captured five gold, five silver and six bronze medals at the event, which wrapped up on Tuesday night in the Kazan Arena.

The five gold medals went to the following participants: restaurant service specialist Martina Wick (who had to highest score of all Swiss; see video below), baker/confectioner Sonja Durrer, wall and floor tiler Renato Meier, electrician Florian Baumgartner and the landscape gardening team of Mario Enz and Fabian Hodel.

Launched on Aug 22, the week-long event saw over 1,300 competitors from 63 countries and regions. China participated in the competition for the fifth time since becoming a member country of WorldSkills International in 2010.
WorldSkills is held every two years at a different location. The aim is to find the best young people in skills from a wide range of industries – from hairdressing to joinery, to electronics and carpentry. This year 1,600 people from 63 nations took part.
