Wokha (Nagaland) : The Don Bosco Alumni Association, Wokha Unit in collaboration with Pinnacle Skills organized one day Interactive Seminar on ‘Career planning & skill development’ on June 9 at Don Bosco Youth Centre Hall, Wokha. 600 secondary and higher secondary students from Wokha district attended the seminar held in two sessions.
A press release from president of the association, Libemo Kithan informed that Pinnacle Skills Chief Executive Dr. Yan Murry, MBBS presented on ‘Career planning and skill development’ for Class 11 and 12 students. He emphasized on various stumbling blocks for students to choose their career and encouraged the young minds to be fearless while choosing a career. He asserted that one’s own zealousness leads to achieve goals. Meanwhile, Dr. Yan encouraged the students to switch the traditional plan of career and not be demoralized by the saturating government jobs in Nagaland. There are lots of avenues and job opportunities outside the State, he added, citing an example of the Reliance Company with 70,000 employees where the higher strata enjoy benefits better than government employees. On skill development, he stated that job is guaranteed after skills development training, while pointing out the lack of skilled employees in India.
In the second session for class 9 and 10 students, Pinnacle Skills Operations Coordinator, James Kithan, MBA, spoke on ‘Taking early steps for choosing the right career’. He maintained that Class 9 & 10 is the most crucial stage to determine the future career. James also urged the students to identify the skills they use when doing the things they love to do. Encouraging the participants to learn as much as possible about the qualifications required for fields that interest them, he asked them to sign up for an educational or training programme in the career of their choice but not a choice of their teachers or parents. “Success is something progressive action and continuous process,” he added and further exhorted the students to let their interest guide them to success.
In both the sessions, the students raised many questions related to careers and future prospects, said the press release.
The first session was moderated by Woben J. Patton, the alumni association’s vice president, while the second session was moderated by James Ezung, the association’s Councillor.
Thungchamo Ezung, the association’s secretary shared some of the activities undertaken by the Don Bosco Alumni Association, Wokha Unit, and encouraged the students to develop a concern for their alma mater. Earlier, Rev. Fr. TT Joseph, Principal of Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Wokha applauded the alumni association for their sincerity and consistent support to the school.
