Bhubaneswar : Annoyed over searching skill development centres of your choice? Do not worry. This mobile application would fetch you data on such skill education centres located nearby you.A group of students from a Jabalpur-based engineering college has developed the mobile application which would help the Government promote skill development and vocational education.
The ‘Skill India App’ developed by six students of Gyan Ganga Institute of Technology and Sciences has won them ‘innovation award’ and fifth position in the Smart India Hackathon conducted at CV Raman College of Engineering here recently.
Though there are numerous Government schemes and initiatives for youth, not everybody knows these schemes or tries to avail mandated benefits. There are also hundreds of portals to reach out to those schemes but all data are scattered. Lack of awareness also makes it difficult to access those schemes and initiatives.
This mobile app unites all those Government data in one single platform and makes it extremely easy for students and unemployed youths to access such schemes that could be very helpful. Team leader Shasvat Jain said the users can find nearby training centres that are being run by Government, skill gap study and participate in skill competitions across the globe. “First they have to register their name in the app, which have three categories. One for students, another for training partners and the third one for companies,” he said.
Basically, the app, which now runs on iOS, bridges the gap between students, Government-run training centres and companies that have been enrolled through this mobile platform.“We are providing multi-language functionality and have integrated custom notification which could be in any regional language. We have used Core-Location for finding training centres that are nearby the user. We would also make it android-based,” said Jain.
The students have used Xcode IDE and swift programming language for the app and have planned to use Government APIs for parsing data. For security they will be integrating it with data inscription. Highlighting the significance in learning and skilling, their mentor Prof Amit Kumar Sahu said with a growing number of youth having access to mobile phones and handheld devices, the app has great potential to reach many in the country.
