New Delhi : In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting skill development among students, the government has decided to promote vocational programmes in the country.
It is learnt that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked Central universities to emphasize on the development of vocational and skill improvement courses. The government had also recently decided to promote Bachelor in Vocation (B Voc) programme in the country.
The effort aims at making India a knowledge superpower by equipping its students with the necessary skills and knowledge and to eliminate the shortage of manpower in science, technology, academics and industry.
The step is being initiated in an effort to bridge the gap of skilled workforce in the industry and help generate more employment opportunities. Over the past few months Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized towards improvement of education and skill development in the country.
The state governments are expected to be urged to adopt skill development framework and also encourage colleges and universities to start add-on courses to increase employability of students.
The push for skill improvement amongst students has a backing of the Prime Minister who has repeatedly emphasized on its importance for improving employability. Skill development is among the top priorities of the government, which has even created a separate ministry for this purpose.
