Bareilly : The Uttar Pradesh government is all set to launch a three-month course starting from January 1 for the minor inmates lodged at government juvenile homes and women shelter homes across the state.
Under the programme, the inmates — most of them have been lodged after committing crimes of serious nature — will be given different kind of vocational training based on their educational qualification and age under UP Skill Development Programme to connect them with the mainstream.
Chief development officer (CDO) Satyendra Kumar said, “In Bareilly district, as many as 113 minors have been lodged in the juvenile home in connection with murder, rape, dishonest misappropriation of property, house-trespass after preparation for hurt, punishment for theft, punishment for kidnapping and under the POCSO Act. Similarly, at the government woman shelter home, 47 teenagers have been lodged on various charges.”
“The training programme will provide them with an opportunity to get a job when they walk out of the juvenile home and woman shelter house. We want them to have a dignified life,” Kumar added.“ For instance, said CDO, “the government will provide training in computer hardware and desktop publishing (DTP) to those who are Class X passed, while those who are illiterate will be trained in carpentry and other similar trades. Similarly, for woman inmates, we are going to hold beautician and stitching classes.”
The CDO said once the training was over, the inmates would be provided jobs in their respective trades.
