MIFSE joined hands with NSDC for additional skills beside fire and safety

Mangaluru : The launching ceremony of Skill India programme jointly organized by Mangalore Institute of Fire and Safety Engineering (MIFSE) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) was held on Monday, September 16 at Town Hall in the city.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr P S Yadapadithaya, vice chancellor of Mangalore University. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yadapadithaya said, “It is necessary to possess essential skills in addition to the necessary qualification in order to get the nod for a job.

“The ability to carry out a given task efficiently is the only way for a person to achieve success in the present competitive job market. The academic qualification given by any institution in which you have studied is not enough to get a job. Knowledge, habits, values, skills and attitude are five important characteristics one should possess to get noticed in the job market.”

Giving details on the Skill India Mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has the target of getting more than 40 crore Indians ready with skills by 2022, the vice-chancellor said, “More than 4,000 courses are there in the mission for job aspirants to pick and get trained in order to secure a job. The basic goal of the project is to help the youth get trained in vocational courses and make them ready for a respectable job by which they can earn their bread. People should grab this opportunity.

Explaining the details of Skill India programme, former academic dean of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru, Dr Jagadeesha said, “In the present world, no one can last long without the skill. Skill denotes the ability of a person to perform a specific task. So it is utmost important for every youth to possess skills by making use of the various skill development programmes.”

The official launching of Skill India programme was done by MLA and former minister U T Khader. At the same time, NSDC certificate was presented to MIFSE president Vinod K John by Khader.

D Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru South, Raghuveer Sootarperte, district youth coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Rajath Sachdeva, analyst of NSDC, Manoj P V, secretary of MIFSE and Yashavanth Gopal Shetty, principal were present.
