Ministry of Women & Child Development joined hands with MSDE for women centric skill development on International Women’s Day

New Delhi : In a bid to boost empowerment of women through Skill India, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) today, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK) of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) to impact women’s livelihood by creating potential through quality skill development. The MoU was signed in the august presence of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Smt. Menaka Gandhi, Minister of Women and Child Development.

The two Ministries’ decision to collaborate on the important issue of the need to build capacity in women to enable them to find livelihood in both traditional and new-age sectors in line with market requirements.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, said, “The MoU is a significant step towards creating an ecosystem of equal opportunities for women to carve out successful career paths and contribute to the GDP in a more impactful manner. Together with MWCD, we will not only strengthen our existing initiatives to skill women for future job roles across sectors but also equip more women to take up roles linked to local and market requirements. I am sure this MoU will facilitate women to take up skills training and drive them towards self-sufficiency. I thank Smt. Maneka Gandhi ji for this joint initiative. International Women’s Day is an apt occasion to make the leap to a better and more inclusive future where women play a stellar role in building a better India.”

Smt. Maneka Gandhi, Hon. Minister for Women and Child Development, said, “Investing in skill and education for women will not only uplift the socio-economic status of women but will also boost our economic growth. I am sure the MoU signed today will strengthen our Skill Development initiatives and provide women with self-employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. I am thankful to Shri Dharmendra Pradhan ji for this comprehensive MoU and hope this joint initiative will go a long way in empowering women in every part of the country.”

As part of the agreement, RMK, the implementation agency of MCWD, will identify skillsets according to geographical relevance after which modules for skill development of women will be developed. The training modules will be aligned with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). This will also provide workshops to promote the entrepreneurship spirit among women. With the support of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), MWCD shall propose specific skill development programs for women that will be designed keeping in mind relevant-industry requirements.
