Chandigarh : The Punjab Government announced to establish first World Class Skill Development University of North India at Chamkaur Sahib. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had earlier accorded his approval to set up World Class Skill Development University at Chamkaur Sahib and the announcement regarding the same was made during budget speech by Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal in the Assembly.
Disclosing this, Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that the establishment of Skill Development University at Chamkaur Sahib would prove to be a milestone in the development of Punjab. Mr. Channi informed that this would be the first of its kind skill development university in the North India. The Technical Education Minister said that as of now there are only two skill development universities in the country, but Punjab Skill Development University would be better than both the universities in the terms of hi-tech infrastructure and quality education.
He said that this University would be set up on 100 acres of land and Rs. 100 crore would be spent in the first phase. He further said that 10th to PhD degree courses focusing on skill development would be run in the university. Mr Channi further said that the university’s academic infrastructure would be created keeping in mind the national and international employment opportunities with 100 percent placement. ‘The establishment of University would also create direct and indirect employment opportunities for the people of Chamkaur Sahib area’, he added.
Mr Channi also divulged that in another major decision, the Punjab Government has decided to restart the work of construction of ‘theme park’ in the memory of elder Sahibzada’s Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji and the other soldiers who were martyred during the war of Chamkaur. He said that this project was ignored by the previous Government for 10 years due to petty political reasons but would see the light of the day soon.
